Traffic to M-DAT Sites Up in 2016

We recently took some time to analyze how well our services are reaching their audiences. I hope you’ll rejoice with us that traffic to ShortTermMissions.com made a 15 percent increase in 2016. Though the majority of the visitors still come from the US, a small but growing number are from Canada, the UK, Australia, and elsewhere. The number of users accessing this site from mobile devices also continues to grow and keeps us on our toes to be sure the web content displays properly.

The trip description pages got almost a third of a million views in 2016 and generated 25,000 direct inquiries through the website’s suggested channels, in addition to inquires from those who may have contacted the sending organizations directly.

Five issues of the ShortTermMissions.com newsletter, designed to remind visitors about the many great opportunities that exist and encourage them to take their next steps, were sent to a list that has now grown to more than 20,000 subscribers.

Meanwhile, the AskaMissionary.com website received 150,000 visits. That’s a six-percent increase from the previous year. The AskaMissionary.com newsletter was sent out quarterly to about 3,000 people including missionaries, mission agency personnel, and those interested in longer-term mission opportunities.

When we add up the numbers, we see that our web services now serve half a million mission-interested people of all ages. Thanks for your encouragement and support in these endeavors!

M-DAT Virtual Team Grows

Meet our Newest Staff Member and Board Member

We try to add a new part-time worker each year. This helps us better serve mission organizations and tens of thousands of individuals looking for ways to be involved in God’s great worldwide kingdom. As a result the M-DAT team now numbers one full-time staff member and four part-time workers plus six regular contractors who serve us through their specialized skills. Members of our team live in five US states plus three additional countries!

Most of what we do has flexible hours. This has helped our team grow to include several moms with kids at home who want to use their skills and earn some money while contributing to the church worldwide.

The next position we’d like to fill is an administrative assistant for David. That’s a bit of a puzzler. Will you pray with us about how to pursue it?

Marketing and Sales

Our newest team member is Rebecca Skinner. Rebecca is no stranger to the mission world, having grown up as a missionary kid in Colombia, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. Now she’s the mother of two boys living in St. Louis.

Rebecca serves through sales and marketing. She helps mission agencies and outreach ministries learn about the unique services we offer and helps youth and adults in the English-speaking countries connect with the many great opportunities available. She’s working with our Facebook initiatives, calling mission agencies, and helping us sharpen our strategies for getting the word out. Welcome, Rebecca!

New Member of the Board

Our Board of Directors is also growing. The Board constantly tries to bring on new members who will deepen and broaden our expertise and networks so as to help M-DAT grow and better serve those desiring to be involved in missions.

We are delighted to welcome Caleb Sylvester as our newest board member. Caleb is a Digital Strategist for Levatas, creatively mixing marketing and digital technologies to propel their clients forward in the marketplace. We are already benefiting from his questions and observations. Thanks, Caleb!

Not the Standards of Mediocrity…

Tuesday, July 11th, 2017

You have heard the stories that make you cringe. We have, too. All of us who have been around for a while have our own stories of a mission trip that didn’t go well.

That’s why we love the Standards of Excellence for Short-term Mission. We want to encourage and help churches, mission agencies, and Christian schools to carry out trips that truly benefit both goers and receivers, equipping each to become more like Christ, and stretching each of us to more deeply know our need for him and his amazing sufficiency. For a mission trip to do all that takes intentionality and work.

Each page of ShortTermMissions.com includes the following:

We are enthusiastic members of the Standards of Excellence. We gladly partner with the Standards of Excellence in providing the training and tools needed to create mission trips worthy of the name. An an SOE leader, David also helps provide a short-term missions track at the annual North American Mission Leaders Conference sponsored by Missio Nexus.
